I dont know that the US did lose 157000 airframes during the war. ive always read they lost 22000 in combat operations and about 22000 to non-combat related causes. Many airframes that were prodeuced remained in the reserve parks and never entere service. Many others were given to friendly nations. Some were cannabalised for parts. Some were retired due to obsolesence
