Let's see how far I get with this project. 24 kits, 17 different camo patterns. The bronze green arrived Tuesday. I took a look at the kit and there is not much to paint. Here the starting point.

They are yellow because the company produced both an OD one with cover artwork for the P-400's of the 67th Ftr Squadron on Guadalcanal and a yellow one for the Cobra II racer. The Cobra II has a paddle bladed four blade prop, but it appears that they screwed up and ran off a bunch with the fighter's three bladed prop. They could not sell them as Cobra II's and they were the wrong color for wartime P-39's. I have a Cobra II issue and one of the olive green ones without a box.'

This is what the original issues of those kits looked like. From what I recall the Cobra II survived until the 1970's when someone, (I think it was Mike Dillon) decided to race it again and crashed it. So both the war surplus P-39's donated by Bell to the racing endeavor eventually crashed. Cobra I went down before the Thompson race, killing the pilot and Cobra II also crashed over 20 years later; I think the pilot bailed out.

I preferred the 3 blade prop but would like a couple of four. Before I order, I was told they were 4 and got no response when I asked about getting some of the 3s. Once the price dropped so low it did not matter. It was a nice surprise. I do want a couple of fours for the Russian planes.

I took my admin Christmas Day off yesterday to visit my doctor for my you're old visit. The last half of the day was to start the P39 builds I picked up white primer for plastic at wally word. However I am trapped at the hospital taking care of my boss. Maybe on Friday.
