Too bad the P59 did not get the LATER larger GE version of the whittle engine, like the single engine the P80 got !!! it certainly would have increased the performance. BUT the P80 was already in the flow !!!

The P-59 had very little room for performance increases, due to its horrendous aerodynamic design and heavy structure. You could have doubled the engine thrust and it would not have had much increase in speed - just a moderate increase in climb rate.
