Since every discussion about the what-if LW fighters often turns into disusing the laternative Bf 109s, let's make a dedicated thread for the fighter. So let's start the .. book from the middle of it :)

Some suggestions:
- keep the clean basic 109F-4/G-2 layout (retractable U/C, no HMG installation, no gondola weapons in the West),
- add the wheel well covers,
- a decent within-the-wing cannon installation should be explored by 1942
- test the ram air intake in the position like the He 100 had, for the lower drag
- retrofit the DB engines on the captured Soviet fighters, and see just how good/bad the Bf 109 still is vs. the later designed fighters
Does anyone know if there was any testing of mounting the mg131 in the wings of a bf 109 to get rid of the bulges from the G5-G14?

I like how the Bf 109 (and its clones) ran a large variety of engines, including under different flags from Israeli to Czech.

Bf 109 V1: Rolls-Royce Kestrel V
Bf 109 A-D: Junkers Jumo 210
Bf 109E-G: Daimler-Benz DB 601/5
Bf 109X: BMW 801 (trials only)
HA-1109-K1L: Hispano-Suiza 12Z (postwar, Spain)
Avia S-199: Junkers Jumo 211 (postwar Czech)
Bf 109E-1/RR: Rolls-Royce Merlin 28 (Royal Aircraft Establishment)

I wonder how a late model Bf 109G would do with a RR Griffon.
