Boeing Model 404 and Consolidated flying wing bomber projects

Everyone's familiar with the Northrop B-35 flying wing bomber, but most don't know that Consolidated devised a 288-foot span flying wing bomber design as an alternative to the B-36 Peacemaker, and even more little-known is the Boeing Model 404 flying wing bomber project. The Model 404, like the Consolidated flying wing bomber, was bigger in span than the XB-35, but had a shorter span (240 feet) compared with the Consolidated flying wing's 288 foot span. That said, it wasn't just Northrop that recognized the potential benefits of the flying wing configuration for US intercontinental bomber aircraft designs in WW2.
