Canadian Olympians, where are they? Whats up with you guys? Are Canadian school children punished for being too athletic? Not one medal!
Dont give me that stuff, "We're into winter sports."

Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden have won some.

Is it cultural? It's been my experience that while Canadians love their country (righteously so) few relate to the term "Patriotism". Does the lack of nationalistic fervor handicap the Canuck athletes?

Canada is a great country and I'd like to see the maple leaf once and a while.
Even Kyrgyzstan has won one!

the american webistes puts usa in 1# but in fact usa is 2# because theres the value of each medal and gold is more valuable than silver and bronze.

not just canada is doind bad in beijing, brazil until now havend conquested a single silver or a single gold. judo was a fiasco !

So???

If Brazil had the most medals I'm sure they'd do the same thing.. It's only an issue cause the USA is the target.

.

but the SI ranking is also helping brazil too

also the brazil that conquested 4 bronze is in better position that countries that conquested 2 golds and 2 bronzes for example !

because they use the alphabetical order as second parameter, so according the SI ranking brazil is ahead of czech rep.(2 golds, 1 silver, 1 bronze).

i think not all the brazilian press would make the same, if have gained more medals than the true leader(impossible, just a dream for us ), but the major media corp. sure would make that. but i dont agree.

i think instead to "makeups" the ranking, is better talk about that guy of swimming, michael phepls, a real conquest and very hard to anchieve ! if that guy was brazilian we would make a statue for him, bigger than liberty statue or the christ of rio de janeiro ! we would have 6 golds and 4 bronzes then,

but i think even american he is, he is not from this planet !!!

regards, jugbr !

Olympics:shock: when to they start
I saw they had Canada playing Australia in hockey but it was hockey on grass I only thought women played that.
Aside from that I'm not really paying attention probably only got an hour invested in it so far. Historically most of our medals are gained in the last week

Perhaps the Canadian Olympic Committee (if there is one) is poorly funded and organized... Athletes don't get a fair shake.

No those aren't the problems we try and be a bit different after the Ben Johnson thing I believe they are tested far more often then other athletes

So... are you saying that is demoralizing to athletes and interferes with their performance or are you saying that Canada doesn't do well cause they're competing against athletes, the majority of which, dope?

well with global warming... who knows ?

Well, Brazil just won a Gold. We're more of a winter country anyway.

PUT@ QUI PARIU !!!! its true !!! i cant believe, not possible !

"olimpic record".... damm... i was sure that we wouldnt win a single gold this games since judo was too weak !!!

man in winter games, the brazilian performance is even worster !!! our teams always needs to train in chile or argentina, because we havent snow here ! looks like that movie with john candy, remember ? "cool runnings"

but in the pan-american games we, canada and brazil, are strong... against guatemala, el salvador, honduras...

Canada's guranteed a medal now, because of wrestling.

Apparently we got three last night, Gold and Bronze in wrestling, and a silver in rowing.

Alright guys!

Mods... delete this thread.. it worked!

There will be the usual hand wringing about our Canadian athletes performances and nothing much will change by the next Summer Games. We simply under-fund our Olympic 'program'. As was pointed out in the paper today, Australia funds their Olympic program at about $8 per citizen. Canada manages about $1.20 per citizen. You can't go cheap and expect results.:p
