If you lost one through carelessness , not as a result of combat action, you could end up getting it deducted from your pay.
You'd also get a Art. 15, or worse .

Isn't $1000 a lot to pay for a machine gun in the WW1 era ?
You could get a new Motel T Ford for less than half that.

As a medic I was issued a 1911 (the gun AND the date it was manufactured) ARs were not being issued yet so the M14 was standard issue. At 11lbs a load to carry. An old Sargent going back to the world sold me his Uzi
