**** DONE: GB-64 1/72 F-82E Twin Mustang - One Trick Pony

Started laying down the aluminum and after about a minute, the paint started to curdle. Checked the bottle and it is acrylic so I had been using denatured alcohol. Tried again with Tamiya reducer and same result. Didn't have this problem when I painted the Mustang for MTO. Does this stuff have a short shelf life? At least what is on the plane is not bad so if I can figure this out, there is no redoing the model.
 
Vallejo hates alcohol. I forgot to flush my AB super good to remove any remnants of IPA. A week later I shot Vallejo and it gummed up immediately and I had to strip it all down. Now if I have to flush out IPA, after the AB has been reassembled, I run through a ¼ AB cup of Medea Airbrush Cleaner, ¼ AB cup of VMA and two AB cups of water. So far so good. I've had my Vallejo Metals for over 4 years and still using them. Just used them on my two P-51s
 
Thanks for the water tip fubar57 . I also tried Tamiya thinner and reducer and both curdled the paint. I must have not thinned it at all the first time. Anyway, I got about half painted and the airbrush clogged up. The paint was fine but it still clogged the tip. Not sure what was going on but now a bit spooked. I have some tape with a msg to test before I use it again. The finish is pretty flat which is what I wanted.

Some touch up and the exhaust and on to decals.
 
I'm deep in the decal phase. I noticed this inconsistency; there are 4 flap no step strips to put next to each fuselage. I have kit instructions and a photo that show there should be two sets of mirror image decals. The kit didn't have a sheet and the aftermarket sheet has 4 the same. I stupidly put on two before seeing that the decals were wrong. I'll try to get them off and I don't have any spares because there are also pictures of F-82s without these stripes.


Oddly, during WWII and after, the P-51 flaps were marked "opposite" from F-82.

The more I look at these two aircraft the more differences I see. Look at the size difference of those flaps.
 
A4K I looked thru all my old decal sheets and don't have warning L or stripes that could be cut up to use. Let me measure exactly what I need and I'll send you the details. Thanks so much!!!
 
Very close to finished. A few detail parts, detail decals and the stripes that A4K is sending. I could make a fair argument that that these "Twin Mustangs" are not ponies. Maybe some of the engine bearers and cockpit is the same but not much else. This is a BIG aircraft; the wing, tail and most of the fuselage look very different. I guess it's like the Spit, very little left of the original in the last Marks.
