Looking for informatioin concerning the crash of a Douglas C-39 that was sent or was to be sent to China to survey airfields and set up nav-aids ahead of the Doolittle force. I reckon the crash occurred in late March 1942 or early April 1942. Every book written about the Doolittle Raid mentions this C-39 crash yet no author has bothered to cite the primary source of this information. No author has given a location of this C-39 crash. I can find no AAF documentation concerning this crash. Maybe it was a CNAC airplane. Does anybody know about this C-39 crash? Where did it happen? What day did it happen? Who was on board this airplane? What happened to the crew? What organization was operating the airplane? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

TonyM.
