The same photo appears in Norm Avery's Book "The Magnificent Medium" , page 37. B-25A at Chanute Field, Illinois. I believe 10AB (Airfield Base) is the designation of the latter.

desert Overall View Of B-25 Mitchell w/ Nose Art & Tail Number 78

View attachment 726285

434-th BS. 12-th BG. MTO.
Note the smooth cowling and the single exhaust pipe - this is one of the unmodified B-25C/D sent to North Africa in desert camouflage, RAF fin-flashes in 4 positions added in the theater.
Serial # is partially visible 1xx817 - with a great probability it is 41-12817, a B-25C (no block number) - note the small, early carburetor intake. A single fixed nose gun is visible in low position (early factory mod, already discussed in the B-25 weapons thread).
Cheers!
I'm sorry for a mistake I did previously - the squadron I mentioned earlier (83rd) was wrong. The battle numbers in the 4 squadrons of 12th BG. were:
81st BS.: 1-25
82nd BS.: 26-50
83rd BS.: 51-75
434th BS.: 76-100
I managed to collect photos of approx. 70% of all planes in the group (some of them of 2 different a/c with the same battle number). My photo of # 78 shows an earlier stage of this a/c - without fin-flashes and noseart.
No. 78 in flight.jpg

Cheers!
