There was UTI-4 type 15B with M-25V and PBP-1A, armed with two BS. It was produced at the end of 1941 in Baku.IMHO , although the UTI-4 based on the I-16 type 5 it is not the UTI-4 but just the I-16 type 5 powered the engine M-25 or M-25A. The traces of the OP-1 collimator installation can be noticed on the I-16 fixed late cockpit windshield that was different from the one used for UTI-4 . The landing gear possible fixed or just lacking the covers. I can't see well the bottom part of the front engine cowling. But it looks like there wasn't the T shape airinlet into the oil radiator used with the very late I-16 type 5 powered by the M-25V engine. Actually, the very late kites had the PAK-1 reflective gunsight instead of the OP-1 one. But the main detail that allows me to believe that's the I-16 but not the UTI version is that the UTI-4 was unarmed aircraft basicly while the one has the armament dismounted with the hosting compartments at the wing leading edges left open.

I'm not going to argue about this particular case, but would appreciate any references about converting a Type 5 to a UTI. Unfortunately, I didn't see any, or I've forgotten about them. You are right. But it is not the case in my opinion.
UTI-4s produced before 1939 had retractable chassis, later - non-retractable.It is very difficult to say if the landing gear is fixed or there is just the lack of the wheel bay doors. The landing legs were retracted and lowered down manually. The only way to state its status is to notice the retraction cables, But these were very thin and can't be noticed in many pics even of the I-16 fighter machines. IMHO most of them had the landing gear kept retractable although lacking of the bay covering doors.
Looked fixed gear to me. So there you go.
