American United States Army Hospital Ship USAHS Ernestine Koranda
1- WW-II Army Hospital Ship, named after a U.S. Army Nurse who was killed in New Guinea during 1943. Army Hospital Ships were operated by the Army Transport Service, which was taken over by the Navy in 1950, after the War Department and Navy Department were merged to form the Department of Defense. The old Army Transport Service is now known as the Military Sealift Command.
