F4U-4, F4U-5 and F4U-5N in 1/48?

The Revell kit is the Hasegawa plastic. While a nice looking kit, I've had a bear of a time with my Hasegawa F4U-5N. The lower wing/fuselage and the cowl/fuselage seams gave me fits.

She eventually went onto the shelf of doom where she's been sitting for at least a decade. I keep telling myself I'll get back to it, but somehow I just never do. I ended up buying a replacement and I just can't bring myself to start it.

The F4U-5 at the top and the F4U-5N at the bottom....
One does wonder, what made Hasegawa think that this would be OK?
 
I see. The seam is caused by using of the Hasegawa fuselage for the F4U-4 and make it longer to fit the F4U-5 model with the new re-shaped nose. The F4U-5N had the same fuselage lenght like the F4U-5. So they could use the same parts for the another variant of the Corsair. Generally the all models of the F4U-5 serie had the same lenght. In reality the difference between the F4U-4 and F4U-5 was about ten inches. IMHO it is not a problem and some of gently sanding with a fine sandpaper should remove that fully.
 
I thought that it felt and looked weird....I think that more than sanding is needed!
Now, I imagine that the real thing has a smooth flow to the lines here....

 
I think you are right. That line looks engraved, don't you have to fill engraved lines to get rid of them? I looked at some pictures and never saw, two lines close like Hasegawa did. Is the distance between those two lines 10 inches in 1/48 scale?

OK. Now I can see that better. There is not only the seam but also the fuselage sides have been "collapsed" all around the line. It means that the distortion is of more larger range and using a putty may not be the best way to correct that. IMHO the best way to get it sorted out is to cut the fuselage along the line and made it ewiden by bending the fuselage parts outside for each half at the range. But it is a very precission work. So I would leave it as it is ... unfortunately.

Do you have any links to the attempts to correcting of that?
