Hello,

I already noticed a "first aid hatch" in several warbirds. What exactly was carried in it?

A much more convenient location for easy access to people other then the pilot (just like the rafys). The cockpit is normally crowded enough with other stuff.

I would think it's for use when you crash, or for someone else to aid the pilot. When you crash, the first thing a thinking pilot does is get out as quick as possible. If you're not able to exit, then putting it inside would just make it harder for anyone else to get to it.

i know us pilots in the ETO had a small first aid kit on their harness of mae west. you can see it in a lot of the cocpit photos.
