I'm helping an elderly friend who recently lost her husband. He was a mechanically creative tinkerer and collector who accumulated all sorts of unusual and historic items. Amongst his things, we found what appears to be a WW2 fighter aircraft drop tank, complete with a plaque mounted on it.
From what I can gather, it's an aluminum external fuel tank, likely from a P-51 Mustang or similar era aircraft, possibly used in bomber escort missions. The condition is excellent—stored indoors for years—and it looks nearly untouched.
