I saw a model Airfix kit of this and was not sure if this was a real variant or a made up one?
So I did some digging around and found this photo -

It was tried but I don't think it went operational.

Three prototypes were built. The picture posted is of the second of these. It's a Fw 190 A-5/U14,TD+SI,W.Nr 0871. It first flew in June 1943. The other two were SS+GF,W.Nr 1282 and TD+SJ W.Nr 0872

Two other prototypes, designated U15,were also built,VL+EQ and probably DZ+LW . This was an "upgraded" version. One of them (VL+EQ) was later used to test the Bohm and Voss Bv 246 "hagelkorn" guided missile.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks for the information Stona.
The fact that there were only prototypes used for testing and not widely used for anti shipping would explain why I had not seen them before.
