It looks like the designers at the time were hugely experimental in the quest for the next generation ultimate aircraft. This wing seems a litteral too literal to nature, but I applaud their thinking.
Looking at the luft 46 web site, there were some seriously odd ideas floating around at the time. I can just imagine how, in the post war years, the allied designers were sifting through all these bluprints, searching for ideas to persue.
It reminds me of the cambrian explosion, when nature was experimenting with an array of strange body shapes, only a few of which survived to evolve long term.
