Very true. Looks like some cutting up front would have been needed but I'm not sure I would have cut the back part.

Actually neither cutting at the front nor at back will work correctly. The main problem with the cockpit is the fuselage. It is too short at about 2,5-3mm. Just the 1,5mm of the incorrection is at the cockpit area while the 1,5-2mm at the fuselage back. The cockpit conopy lenght is about 26mm what is correct for the 1/72 scale but the cutout at the fuselage for it is about 24-25mm. If the fuselage would be lengthened there the cockpit "glass" fitted without any problem.
