So, what next ?...oh yes...
Picture the scene, there I am up to my armpits in cleaning stuff getting the 7 X Chippax ready for their next sorties and along comes Peter who casually leans against a wing and says' Gary...got a question for you !'. Eager as ever, I respond with a quick 'Yup, what I can do for you ?, and the response comes back 'Would you like to fly out in the T33 ?'
I'll leave out my exact response but you can imaging the reply I had flown into Osh in the nose of a Privateer and now was going to leave in a fighter !...yippekyaay !
So on the Sunday morning around 09:00, I'm at the side of 0556 and we prep for departure. Excited does not accurately describe my mood as this the first time I have ever flown in a Jet Fighter !. So we started up and trundled out to the active and the had to wait while 3 Marine Corp Harriers took off then circled back for a 3 ship close formation flypast...clearly they knew I was about to lose my Jet fighter virginity and wanted to make a 'do' about it
We left Osh and climbed out up to our transit alt of 17K. There I am in the back just revelling on the experience on the way up and taking heaps of pic's and when I looked at them I noticed something was not quite right with my mask...the hose had detached !. The hose had detached when I was on the ground and it was only the Mic cables remaining that kept me from knowing the hose was off because I thought everything was working !. A very quick bit of work and all was attached and working well which is a good thing to have above above 10 K. Moral of the story is to keep checking your equipment every now and then, don't become complacent !
Then Peter says 'Would you like to fly her ?'. OMFG...me driving a Vietnam era jet !!!. 12 minutes stick time including the let down to the airport then I passed control back. that is going in my logbook !!. And yes, I sneezed just before the roll
Once back down physically...mentally I was still up at 17K ... and put to bed we then drove back to Osh, jumped into 4 of the Chippax and then flew in formation back to Waukesha.
Oshkosh is just ...indescribable !

We had flown the Chipmunks previously into Osh in a thundering herd before the AVC Race in a formation of 8 aircraft...6 X Chippax, 1 Bonanza and the 'O'l Grey Goose' the emotional support Cessna... and left Osh in a flight of 4 using the callsign Skylark flight
Eric, Henning, Richard and Stephen are resurrecting the old RAF Skylark display flight of Chippax and are working on their display so it was very interesting on the return flight being in the lead ship and watching the signals and intercom traffic for the formation changes
Here's a bunch of pics from the two flights with one of the vids showing the landing at Osh after breaking in trail. We were told to land on the yellow dot...which we did ! ...and we spaced either side of the centre line to allow overrun if needed

And on a side note, the head gear I'm wearing is a Royal Naval deck hand hard hat that I have modified to install the DC headset, that I have painted up. Its not a full on bone dome but will provide a fair bit of protection if needed !. I've gone for the red / yellow on the front pad paying homage to the 'Yoxford Boys' ...Bud Anderson and the 357th GF guys out of Leiston... and the rear pad is olive drab with vertical Invasion stripes on either side and on of my 'One More Time' sticker front and center

Should be there next year with maybe at least one more Chippie to look after. Tend to get to the 'girls around 08:00aftetr breakfast at 07:00 to open them up and do the daily walkarounds then back in the evening around 17:30 to put them to bed. Will be in contact beforee going out there so we can get a meet up !
