When speaking of great American generals we hear about Grant, Sherman, McArthur, Lee, Jackson, Eisenhower, and Patton but Thomas rarely gets mentioned. Where do you guys think Thomas ranks up there with the other great generals in our country's history?

When speaking of great American generals we hear about Grant, Sherman, McArthur, Lee, Jackson, Eisenhower, and Patton but Thomas rarely gets mentioned. Where do you guys think Thomas ranks up there with the other great generals in our country's history?

Seems to have done well, but I don't know much about him. Looks like interesting reading. Quality Union generals seem so rare.

My understanding in that he never lost, even at the battle where he got his nickname. Didn't move fast enough for Grant, so was not as well known.

Thomas and Grant were not close but Thomas and Sherman were good friends.
