Thanks @Wurger What of the Skua white sided scheme, but with both underside wings white? Surely they wouldn't use that brilliant white if it's not needed to contrast with the black?

and here ... BTW Skua didn't have the white fusealge sides. But as I said. You may use the white for the full undersides and the fuselage sides. It depends just on you only.

IMHO the colours should be the Extra Dark Sea Grey/ Dark Slate Grey on tops and the Sky Grey on undersides.

My first ever airbrush and masking attempt worked out well today. Thankfully Vallejo has the exact colours, so no mixing was needed.

While I managed to replace the Mercury with a sleeve valve Perseus (by deleting ohv cowl bumps and push rod tubes), I gave up on the wing fold, so the Gloster Gannet Mk.1 will have to avoid HMS Ark Royal and the Illustrious class. I expect the Gannet Mk.2 would have rearward folding wings and conventional flush undercarriage. On the plus side, with nothing beyond an added arrestor hook and added floatation and anti-corrosions measures, we should be able to get the Mk.1 into FAA fleet service by 1938, which may cancel out the two-seat deadend that was the Fulmar.

Here's the Vallejo colours I used:

• 71.407 Sky Grey, for the underside, fuselage sides, rudder
• 71.309 Dark Slate Grey for upper surfaces
• 71.110 Dark Grey (with a drop of 71.307 Medium Sea Grey added) for camo

Here's mine thus far. Once the decals are done I'll cover the gloss coat with matte. I'll use some copper wire to serve as the exhaust manifolds that connect to the bronze exhaust ring on the cowling.

Thanks. The Gloster doesn't really have a means of tucking away the hook like the Sea Hurricane. Here's what I've mocked up. Thoughts on length and placement? And colour of the hook, sea grey or black?

IMHO ... the whole hook is a little bit too long. I would make it shorter a little bit. Regarding the colours it could be of the undersides colour especially , the hook arms but the hook itself could be of red for instance. But it looks fine generally.

I like that red colour on the hook. As for the hook, here's a Gloster Sea Gladiator. I suppose the same firm would follow this pattern for their next carrier fighter. Thoughts on the box fitting the hook end goes on? I could fabricate that.

Thanks. It's the same brass colour I used on the copper hull on my conversion of Heller's 1:150 scale French 74-gun Superbe to HMS Spartiate. With some grey added to the brass paint for tarnish on the Gloster fighter. Spartiate took me almost five years, so the Gloster Gannet is zooming along.

When you look at the size of the crew (1:160 N-scale model railway people) compared to the ship, these vessels must have seemed immense in the late 1700s.

I mean the two flumes for the arms to hide them and a rectangle opening quite thight to the hook but enough deep to allow to hide the half of the arrestor hook. See the enlaarged shot below.

I don't dare to grind out a channel for the hook like you shown above. I may have to leave the hook so that is is proud of the under surface, like on the Nimrod.
