You gave no disrespect in any way. I was just stating that I like to keep threads
on topic if possible. I feel that a lot of members including me, have a tendency to
post a lot of great knowledge about camouflage, performance, history,,,etc. of
a given aircraft on an inappropriate thread. The sad part of this is that someone
craving for the information posted may never see it because the thread title does
not interest them.

As Airframes said the top colours of the FAA Hellcats were the Dark Slate Grey and Extra Dark Sea Grey on tops and the Sky on undersides. These D-Day strips were of white and black. Because the FAA Hellcats were painted in the US factory often with the US colours you may use : as the DSG - ANA 613 Olive Drab, as the EDSG - ANA 603 Sea Grey and instead of the Sky - ANA610 Sky Grey.

about staying on topic or high jacking someone's thread..... lol
next question... I have used a green for the cockpit for many other
planes of mine. would you say that the british hellcat would have the same
color cockpit ... since you made mention that they were built in the usa...
why would they use a different color >???? here is the color I am
used to painting... my cockpits

IMHO the cockpit colour looks fine. As memo serves the FAA Hellcats had the cockpits of the US Interior Green.
 
Interior colours, including primers and other protective coatings, would be the same as used by the USN.
However, on aircraft built for use by British forces, in this case the Royal Navy, US 'equivalent colours' were used, mainly manufactured by DuPont, and were as close as they could be, using 'stock' colour pigments, to the British specification.
Obviously, it was not viable to ship British paints to the US, when 'local' paints, close enough in shade / hue, could be used.
There were differences, in the way of fittings and equipment, with American aircraft in British service, but these are probably not relevant to a R/C model, as they involved items such as seat harnesses, radios, gun-sights etc, which were fitted when the aircraft arrived in the UK.

When I searched the forum for "Hellcat" I came up with many. This was just the first one on the list. Before I built my RC B-17, I read many threads from many master builders. It's a great website. If you wish to participate you need to become a member ($20 USD/Yr), but you can read without being a member.

If remember correctly these were based off the USS Princeton ,but the naval brass very quickly ordered the removal of the artwork. don't remember why...

Yep, with VF-27, the only unit to so decorate their Hellcats in the US Navy. When the Princeton was sunk during the Marianas Turkey Shoot and VF-27's aircraft went to other carriers, those aboard were not too impressed with the nose art and it was removed. Thread creep...
 
Only USN F6Fs operating over Europe were from VF-74 and VOF-1, and both squadrons only for the invasion of southern France in August 1944; I can elaborate if you wish.

Neither squadron sported invasion stripes, the F6Fs of both squadrons were standard overall dark blue.

I would like to know more about which Hellcat had the invasion stripes...
I have made my mind up... I am going to do mine Royal Navy colors...
My plane will be different than others and thas what I am after...

It shows only 1 plane with invasion stripes...
In order for me to gain points... at an event I will need a photo of an
actual plane that was in WWII.....
thats why its important for me to find the hellcats that had the invasion
stripes... thats a great photo.... Thanks for sharing.
 
It looks alot like this plane.
the first pic is of a Real plane
the 2 others appear to be of a model
of the top plane. I would really like to learn
more about the 1st plane I showed.
squadron ... based from ....and who was the most
famous British Royal Navy Pilot.... I could have his
name on the plane...
I will be getting custom decals for all the emblems
done up.. and if any one can think of some that would
be helpful... or if someone found this plane from different
views.. that would help too.

Those are some Awsome pics.... appreciate them... there are a few there I had not seen before...
when I do research such as this I made a file folder... and name it.. .and start compiling pics in that
folder... and then I go back and just look at every pic... and study...
 
OK guys.. went to a buddy house long time RC guy... and Friend..... I went threw his
paint cabinet .. check this out... I would say this is a very close match for the bottom
of the Royal Navy Hellcat....
plus he had the Cock Pit Green too...
We use base coat clear... when we paint our planes... depending on what plane we
have .. it has to be fuel proof... either Kero...Diesel.. JP-4... Gasoline... or Nitro....
