I'm looking for crashsite of Halifax JP228/P from 614 Sqn lost on the night 21/22.8.44
during 205 Group attack on Szony Oil Rafinery.

Thanks, but where is Widony? Despite my best efforts I fail to faind place of this name in Hungary.

My guess is that the place name has changed since the war.

Szony is actually to the west of "Ostrihom" on that map, which is now apparently called Esztergom.

You can see there's been a certain amount of, ah, "cultural adjustment" in that area from the site which provides the map:

So, there's likely been a Magyarisation, or a Slovakization, or a Modern-Magyaration, or a Retrospective-Slovakization, etc etc ad infinitum. "Where's my Shtetl?"
