looks like Italy? Can anyone ID it, wondering if it is a 178 squadron or one of the SAAF squadrons. Especially interested in the Halifax pictures in the group. Unfortunately missed the sale. Wonder if that is one from 614 (Pathfinder) squadron, as it is fitted with H2S radar which 148 special duties squadron Halifax's didn't have. Taking one step further, could the Liberator and Halifax be from 614 squadron in the spring of 1945, when they changed from Halifax to Liberators. The Wellington also points to Foggia but the B-17 is a bit of a curved ball for Italian base. Wish I could read the serial number on the Halifax!

Just seen some pictures via eBay on an, unfortunately, expired auction. Just trying to ID a Halifax in the set of photographs.
The serial number can be seen in the image posted here but not enough definition to read it!
I have messaged the US eBay seller to see if he would pass my contact details to the buyer.

Any help much appreciated

Steve A

On checking the B-17 out, called "Stop Stare" found this, which points to Amendola?
"Delivered Long Beach 30/5/43; Kearney 20/6/43; Dow Fd 14/7/43; Assigned 97BG Chateau-du-Rhumel 29/7/43; Pont-du-Fahs 1/8/43; Depienne 15/8/43; Cerignola 20/12/43; Amendola 16/1/44; crashed 24/6/44, Salvaged. STOP AND STARE."

The B-17 details really point to Italy and possibly being Amendola. As the name "Stop Stare" suggests it (see image)

614 operated both Halifax B.II and Liberator B.VIII between Aug 1944 & March 1945 when the former were given up completely.

A batch of 27 Liberator B.VIII (equipped with the H2X radar in place of the belly turret) were delivered to the Middle East between Aug and Oct 1944 intended to provide a pool of aircraft for use by 614 squadron. At the end of the day only 2 saw no service with 614/214 squadrons, being flown on to the Far East in Aug 1945. These aircraft were serials KG943-958 and KH227-237 and were the first B.VIII models to be delivered to the RAF (GR.VIII deliveries to Coastal Command were also beginning at that time). After these aircraft the next batch of B.VIII weren't made until May 1945,

614 was renumbered 214 on 27 July 1945.
