Actually, my first guess was the booster coil as well but I'm still not certain about that. The fuel filter is located further back and lower down. The unit you pictured appears to me to be electrical, not plumbing.

Open the photo in another window and pull out to the whole frame. It's a temp sensor...You can see the sealed bulb on the end of the flex cable.

Need to clarify things a little...open the thumbnail at the bottom to full screen....

I doubt it is a fuel filter. Lines should be larger for that size engine.

Agree with CAVU Mark. Fuel line would be much larger plus the fuel filters I have come across are part of the carburetor.

They sure are - like around 19mm or 3/4 inch.

The coiled line goes towards the very front of the aircraft engine and the small port that sticks out looks like its rotated towards the interior. Could it be something to do with the constant pich?

Don't know for sure, but, it could be a fuel signal transmitter. Some WW2 Aircraft have this to light up a light on the instrument panel to let the pilot know when fuel pressure is below a certain pressure and that the engine is about to quit because of lack of fuel. About 10 seconds on US aircraft.

The lead to the coolant header tank is the major clue. I like the temperature sensor idea. Fuel is all behind the engine on a Spitfire.

At first glance you are correct but if you look closer in your second photo the Tecalamit control you are following to the pitch control and the tube from the canister cross just forward of the canister.
If you follow the tube from the canister it actually runs down almost to the oil tank then back up to a coolant pipe so I would say your second photo has identified what the unit is - the coolant temperature probe and transmitter.
