Wow - that's the sort of no nonsense solid information I was hoping to find
here. But help me - I am still trying to build a library that is more than my
old NATOPS, I have some Eric Mombeek vols. on Luftwaffe, where do you find
this information? What books do I need to search out and gradually add?

i can have it wrong erich so yes correckt me but i am a member of the stormbirds forum (STORMBIRDS.COM - Luftwaffe Resources) and i am sure that they are just like me real me 262 experts and they say the me 262 a-1b is for the one with BMW 003 engines its on the tread with the correct designation for the me 262 with r4m rockets ( i am sorry cant give a link the forum is currently of-line)

best regards jan

My first post. Hello everyone.

Agreed with Luftwaffemesserschimitt, the small letter designation indicates engine type. "a" is for Jumo004 and "b" is for BMW 003. Only four Me 262 A-1b ever built. Wrk nr. 130184 and 170078 were engine test beds. Rutzsatze designations for R4M is "R7" (example Me 262 A-1a/R7).

Hi!

Can anyone confirm this Me 262 modification?

R1- fuel tank (Is it a internal auxiliary tank No.4 in fuselage? - I'm not sure)
R2 - JATO
R3 - Walter rocket engine for C version
R4 - radar for B version
R5 - ?
R6 - ETC503 racks and TSA 2D sight (?)
R7 - R4M
R8 - 2x R100BS rockets
R9 - 4x Rurhstahl X4 guided rockets

R1 - 500 liter fuel tank carrier under fuselage
R2 - 2 x Ri 502 RATO
R3 - BMW 003R
R4 - FuG 360 Zc Naxos
R5 - Standard weapons installation
R6 - Jabo
R7 - R4M
R8 - R110BS
R9 - X4 (Ru 344)

Back on to WW2 aircraft that should of been built:

RAF

Spitfire Mk III:

Merlin XX engine,
Clipped wing tips,
Cannon with 120 rpg,
15% more fuel,
New landing gear with widened track and foward rake,
Wheel well covers,
Retractable tail wheel,
Strengthened fuselage,
Increased armour.

400 mph top speed
3,800 feet/minute rate of climb

Whirlwind II:

2x 1,010 hp Pegasus engines (on 100 octane fuel)
40% increase in fuel capacity
Redesigned fuel cross feed system
High activity Rotol propellers

I think that Bloch one could be effective but it is ugly. Maybe that is why the Luftwaffe didn't produce it. It looked too ugly to them...
