Brown was short and probably needed the seat high, which would effect the thigh/stick relationship. The 109 has a small cockpit but, the stick throw would have been designed to match control movement. However, different aircraft types have different control throws, leverage, range of movement, ease of pilot effective operation and overall effect.Winkle Brown mentioned the 109's roll rate as effected by stick restrictions, when pulling max turns the stick was hard into his thighs limiting movement which is probably why Mitchell made the Spits control stick hinged.
