Right....confused!







BII-213 was flown by a buntaicho. The crew were PO Toshikatsu Nishimura (pilot) and Lt. Shun Nakagawa (radioman/gunner). Note the two red buntaicho horizontal stripes. Lt. Shun Nakagawa, the Hiryu D3A1 commander at Pearl Harbor, also made the topic public in his article 'Dive Bombing Cruiser St. Louis' in Mikokai Shashin ni Miru Shinjuwan Kogeki [Pearl Harbor Attack in Unpublished Photos] (Tokyo: Rekishi Dokuhon, Bessatsu; 1990). He confirmed that many command aircraft during the Hawaii Operation were in gaudy markings. The reason given confirms the research by H. Yoshimura and M. Asano, that -based on training and past combat- dive bombers had become widely scattered and it was difficult to reassemble.

The Japanese gained control of the islands as part of the treaty ending WW1. Prior to that they were mainly controlled by German trading companies. As far as indigenous people I believe it was the Micronesians that colonized and settled the islands.
 
The Kindle app is free on Android, which is what your Samsung Tablet runs, most likely it is already installed on it. If you sign into the Kindle app with the same amazon account you used to purchase the book (in Kindle format) the book will automatically appear in your library. One of the neat gems about Amazon is how many FREE books are available in their library. Almost all of the Harvard Classics are available for free as well as 1000's of other really interesting titles. Not so much for our particular area of interest but general literature.
