It seems that the Germans operated more B-17s than RAF Coastal Command

Maybe Fortress Is, of which CC only operated a handful, but around 300 Fortress IIs and IIIs went to the RAF, most of which went to Coastal Command. The Fort II was equivalent to B-17E and F, with the Fortress III equivalent to the B-17G
