This is a photograph of my great great uncle, Lawrence Wigley. I know he was not the pilot of this plane but I'm trying to find out any information that I can about this plane, the crew, etc. This photo was in my grandmother's house for as long as I can remember and after she passed away my dad gave the photo to me. This photo actually hangs on the walls of the VA clinic in La Grange TX.

The plane is the P-38L-5-LO s/n. 44-25568 flown by Mjr. George Laven, the 49th FG, Phillipines 1944-1945. Other sources suggest the HQ Squadron / 54th Fighter Squadron. Judging by the number of victories on the nose your image had to be taken later.

And not all identical. Do they indicate different types of trains.

'HQ Squadron / 54th Fighter Squadron' refers to his earlier tour of duty with 54th FS in the Aleutians. His airframe there was the first 'Itsy Bitsy'
