Japanese WWII Senninbari Belt translation please

I would like some help translation the characters/pictures/symbols on this belt please. I bought it at an auction and I am fascinated by the historyof them. I'd like to do a presentation on the belts at the senior center where I work in activities. I have seen several belts on the internet in great condition, but this one is well used. Gosh, I can't imagine the story behind it. I'd like to frame it to preserve it. I'm sorry I don't even know if I have it right side up or upside down. I Thank you in advance! Dawn Bentley
