When my son was born we had the great fortune of his great-grandparents still being active and able to pitch in -- we had the best child-care program in the world.

They were migrant farm-workers from Mexico who followed crops up and down the West Coast. They settled in Ventura and that's where I met their grand-daughter.

Grandpa Rey loved having another baldy around, and would sing that "pelon" rhyme to Jake. I sure love and miss him. He could fix a car, turn an asada, or make you laugh, amongst everything else.
