Just how big is the P-47

Can anyone tell me about the turbocharged BMW 801 powered Fw190. This Fw190 had the turbo charger right behind the engine.

P-47s remained in service for a very long time after the war, in some of the south American afs. The Peruvian af kep them until 1966. they were very capable beasts, but I never realized just how massive they were. They were not cheap, at $85000 US per copy in 1945.

The P-47N was a formidable opponent with heavy armamaent, high speed, and high altitude capabiilities.

If they weren't as limited on range as they were, we'd be romanticizing more about P47's these days, rather than P51's.

In a front view you can see how much fuselage the ducting takes up by the location of the wing and also the round of the engine. Without its cowl, the P-47's big radial looks quite small bolted onto the front.
