3000+ previously classified files on the assassination of John F Kennedy have been release, and are viewable on the National Archives Website. There are still plenty that have not been release because they are deemed still classified for national security purposes, but they are to be reviewed over the next 6 months. At that time any that are not considered a threat to national security will be released.

I have been perusing them, and find it pretty interesting to read them.

Let's just try and keep it from dabbling too far into modern politics guys, but this is pretty thread worthy in my opinion.

JFK Assassination Records - 2017 Additional Documents Release

I wonder what then would be considered "a threat to national security" in the present time. So much has changed since then I can only guess that names might have been named. Having said that, its been bookmarked and will be read. Thanks Alder

The Daily Mail has investigated these documents in detail. They draw two conclusions.

1. L.H. Oswald looks like Cesc Fabregas.
2 That woman called Monroe is a real looker, lets put 20 pics of her in an article

CrewChief ... you should revisit/revive this great thread .... proves politics can be handled in a constructive, mature manner

Kennedy JFK Assasination

Personally - as a Canadian - I never gave Kennedy much thought - but the old thread is interesting and while I am not going to wade through the document inventory you have linked to, I am counting on you to dissect this trove and reveal to us your insights/findings, agreed?

I will have a look eventually. I would be interested to know who, if anyone, were considered to motivate the shooter. I don't think he acted alone, though Ive no evidence to back that suspicion up

It is being reported in UK that a newspaper gave a "twenty minute warning" of Kennedy being shot. In fact there was a notification of a big story and twenty minutes later Kennedy was shot. With what was going on in US and world politics at the time there are hundreds of things that may be considered "big news" but suddenly are unimportant when a President is killed. As a kid growing up I have no recollection of JFKs assassination but I do of Robert .F. Kennedy's which happened when I was eight.. However coverage of the one usually contained footage of the other, I was in my teens before I understood that there were two who had been shot and only one was actually President.

I think the only real mystery is just how much of a Soviet agent Oswald really was. It is clear he was one; they would have never let him come back, otherwise. The only question is whether he was acting on Moscow's orders. While probably not addressed in this new release I strongly suspect most of the secrecy is associated with that issue. If it had been revealed that he was a agent of the USSR a full scale war would have been demanded, whether he had gone rogue or not.

... that didn't happen on the legacy thread .... were folks more "mature" in 2005?

We have closed dozens of threads because of it over the years.

But if you really need to have clarification, the JFK thread you are referencing as an example is not modern politics. We do not allow modern political discussion. Not hard to understand.

Surely then you're saying that these new disclosures won't have any effect on "modern politics" .... I wonder whether or not you're right on that .... these are volatile times in the Great USA .... you may have to shut down your own thread

But without getting into the big picture, I would be interested to know, the details. how, for instance, did he actually get into the building without detection? Probably there are easy answers. I'm not a great student of this event, just curious.

it does make sense that there was some Russian involvement, given the event in Cuba at the time. but did he not have a lot of domestic enemies as well???

Michael there is no discussion on this. You know exactly what I am implying.

This thread will stay open as long as it stays as modern nonpolitical as possible, and remains civil.

Stop trying to pick it apart and argue. Don't ruin it. Got it?

In terms of documents being kept secret the UK has had many issues about documents being released under the 10 year 25 year or fifty year rule. Sometimes these are absolute dynamite exposing the politicking of the time, at other times they are completely innocuous and remained secret so as not to offend people who were still living but were involved.

"...how, for instance, did he actually get into the building without detection?"

Oswald worked in the Texas School Book Depository. They published the details of JFK's motorcade route the day before.
