It would be much easier to identify if it was not covered in rubbish and water and if you had some dimensions so that we know the size of the part(s). Dimensions do not need to be exact - at present we do not even know if those slots in the cross member are roughly 10mm, 10cm or 10dm long.

For context: the part is buried deep in the mud and dirt. It's embedded in a ditch - we excavated it as best we could. I've attached a picture with a rough overall length as a guide. I hope that might be helpful to help identify what this is. Many thanks.
Unfortunately there is nothing on the Merlin powered Lancs that I can think of that fits the picture. I only worked on a Mk X (KB976) which is basically the same as the I and III.
Hopefully when the drain is dry you can get better photos or a part number or two (or more). Most Lanc II airframe parts are identical with most of the changes being limited to the firewall forward so that makes it easy.
Bristol Engine parts have a prefix of FB which will help as any FB part is forward of the firewall although there are lots of Avro parts there as well. Any FB part limits it to a Bristol powered aircraft so even if it is not the Lanc you have a much smaller pool of aircraft it could have come from.
