Here is a thread to tell your lesson learned stories. I'll start.
Had 3 things happen to me last night that I learned not to do again.
1. When engaging the enemy, make sure to check six. ( im good at keeping aware of my soroundings, but I had brain fart and didnt look behind me. 2 Yak's on my 6 at about 200 meters, shot my ailerons out and I bailed.)
2. When attacking a plane, make sure you dont have 7 of your buddies behind ya firing at your target. (We were just taking off when we were bounced by a flight of 3 Yaks. We all made it off the ground, and the flight leader downed one, and I downed another one. The last one probably realized he was in a world of hurt cause he started doing all kinds of things to get away. He dives in a right hand turn and I fall in behind him. I close to him to about 150 meters and all of a sudden I start seeing tracers all around me. Most of my guys are behind me shooting at my target. I get my ailerons shot again, go figure, but I manage to shoot the Yak down. Tried landing, couldnt control it, so I bailed.)
3. When shooting at a I-16, try to do it at more than 20 meters. (We were escorting Ju-87's and came across a flight of 4 I-16's. I tell my flight to attack, and I get very close to the flgiht leader. Well, too close, I just open up with my 20mm to hopefully get a quick kill, and something happened cause it took out my oil radiator. I tell the rest of the flight to attack and my wingman to rejoin. I make it back to base, drop gear and flaps, and the engine quits. I make a perfect glide in so the ground crew will be able to fix the plane.)
So those are my Lesson's Learned, and there will be more to come. Hope you enjoy and get a few laughs. And BTW, share your Lesson's Learned.
