I am new to this website. I am doing research on Lt Earl Stoeppelwerth P-47D. He was in the 366th Fighter Group 389th Fighter Squadron. One of his family member ask me to find a photo of his plane.
They said it was named after his wife, Geraldene. They knew if was My Jerry ( not sure of the spelling of Jerry} I did find Earl Stoeppelwerth is buried in Arlington National Cemetery along with his wife.
He became a Lt Colonel and severed in WWII Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Distinquished Flying Cross and Bronze Star. I have tried to find the serial number of the aircraft but to no luck. I did find MACR 5973. He was the last person to see aircraft 42-76465 flown by 1st Lt William E Smith. I have attached the MACR 5973. Any help would be greatly appreciated'
