Ive finally come around too deciding I want to own a merlin engine, preferably out of a spitfire and in full running order.
My plan is to take it to shows etc.I run my own garage so mechanical work etc isn't a problem................does anyone know of one up for grabs rest assured it will be going to a good home.

Hi Dave and welcome to the site.

I would strongly recommend that you speak to Peter... Home (merlinv12site)

What he doesnt know about Merlins....hasnt been thought of !. He displays his engines with some colleagues at various shows around the country and a glorious sight and sound they make as well !!!!

Be advised that the SpitfireSpares engine is a Meteor...in other words, yes its a RR V12, but it doesnt have the reduction housing / gearing or prop boss that would want.

On the plus side, tyhe Meteor sounds like a Merlin and unlike a Merlin, it doesnt require a 'load' ...ie a prop... for it to run quite happily. The Merlin doesnt like having no work to do and isnt a happy puppy under no-load conditions.

Good hunting !

I do not want to hijack this thread, but does anyone know where one can find WW2 German aircraft parts? Preferably from the Bf 109 or Fw 190, but any aircraft. Not necessarily engine parts either. I would love to find instruments or even wing panes or rudder pieces with markings still on them. Basically anyone that deals in Luftwaffe aircraft parts?

Check your other thread you started Adler.

Please don't buy one unless its going into an aircraft at this point intime they are rare and its very tough to get spares for . Most Merlins were used up by guys with racing boats and they wasted many of these fine engines:cry:

Hi All,

I am a new member to this forum. I have a specialist question to ask. How much would a Merlin engine cost? I have access to two Merlin engines and from my understanding they are aero ready and might or might not have been used in Spitfires. The engines come with history and accompanied documentation. One engine is ready to go and is currently crated.

Any responses are welcome on valuation and how best to offload them.

were are you located? whats the dash # will determine the values and of course condition. if its a rusted up out of the ocean its not worth much. if its a runner could be big $$$ go to vintage v12s web site and email him. he posts here from time to time.

Robwkamm,

The engines are in good condition..as I mentioned earlier. I am based in the UK.

15k US$ and up depending on the dash # and paperwork.Thats my best guess. if you can get them for under 10 k there really cheap and worth ever penny.

if you were in the USA i would have a look for myself. always wanted one for my collection. try barnstormers.com or something like that in the UK.
