This is a Wilmer eyeshield. I bought it at a junk shop way back in the 1970s thinking it was some kind of WW2 flight crew gear.About three years ago I found out it was a very rare U.S. WW1 item that clipped onto helmets that had little holes on the rim. It was stated that only about 25 were known to exist (which is why I could not find info on it) On a Militaria forum when I showed, it a collector in Europe who specialized in US body armor bought it from me at a very good price - $900.00
