Militaria Collecting (1 Viewer)

This is a Wilmer eyeshield. I bought it at a junk shop way back in the 1970s thinking it was some kind of WW2 flight crew gear.About three years ago I found out it was a very rare U.S. WW1 item that clipped onto helmets that had little holes on the rim. It was stated that only about 25 were known to exist (which is why I could not find info on it) On a Militaria forum when I showed, it a collector in Europe who specialized in US body armor bought it from me at a very good price - $900.00

I changed it though

After my grandfather's passing, my mom and her sisters sold his house. I was told by my cousins that there all kinds of treasures in the basement. Among them were his Great War uniform. I regret it was not preserved. Do you you have aviation militaria?
I have an accumulation rather than a collection.

Yes some aviation stuff.

I hope his uniform ended up in a museum or at least at someplace that will respect it.

Not watched yet, will do when i get chance

Another great and well researched video. A question about a scene makes me wonder. At 12:25 just as the two trains have passed, an Officer(?) walks out into the muck and retrieves something, shakes it and walks back with it. What could it have been? Perhaps a bolt from a wagon, difficult to find, or a riding crop dropped?
Another question: Why the Haines/Haynes spelling? I know from WW1 vets from south Louisiana, the sergeants filling out the paper work often did not like all the letters in a name and on occasion anglicised the surname. One example I knew, was the change from Campeaux to Campo. Mr. Campo told me, since he had no birth certificate and only a church baptismal certificate, Campo would do. That vet's four sons, when I asked about changing to original family spelling, told me one had, and the other three said to leave it alone.

some parts from my collection
