Found those mission symbols on Fold3. Very similar to those in the initial post by Geo:

Easier on the eyes than the one I posted. Not show on mine or Yves is the quintet shown below. Its been asked about on several other forums with no definite answer. Near as I can figure is a troop column or other such concentration. Lt. William Bolin King (355th FS, 354th FG, 9th AF), age 21, poses briefly sometime after 24 June 1944 at Cricqueville en Bessin Airfield (A-2) on the wing of his P-51B-10-NA (s/n 42-106434) "Atlanta Peach."
