The horrendous Vampire NF.10, which was designed around the dimensions of the cross section of the de Havilland Mosquito fuselage and, like the Mosquito, the nose was built out of wood (as was the single-seater). The NF.10 was the first two-seat Vampire type and fully laden with two occupants and radar the aircraft was not a success as with the extra weight, the nose gear oleos were not pressurised enough and sitting on the ground for any length of time fully laden would compress, sinking the nose of the aircraft to the ground! I read a humorous anecdote by an NF.10 pilot who recounted how the RAF's first jet night fighter force was rendered ineffective whilst waiting for taxi clearance during an exercise when this exact thing happened! In a "good will" exercise, the NF.10s were passed on to the Egyptian Air Force...
