Arrrhh

Crescent wrenches - the original UNF spanner. As in Universal Nut F---er.

as bad as Sidchrome who used to advertise with a phoney Scotsman saying ye can na hand a man a granda spanna which morphed in aviation to ye should na hand a man a rubber spanna

For those in the US metric Crescent wrenches are a joke.
IN the rest of the world they are standard

:) :)
I have seen a left handed monkey wrench :)

They are Whitworth wrenches ;)

Essential for working on Royal Enfield motorcycles.
...and RR Dart engines/Dowdy Rotol props/Dunlop pneumatic brakes. Oh, and don't forget to lay in a stock of BS (British Standard) tools, too! Also if you have a vintage Triumph TR4 or Bonneville 650, or 60s Norton or BSA.

Ages ago, a friend of mine was into Morris Minors.
Those little beasties had no respect for metric or SAE tool sizes!

When I started at Lockheed some old timer tried to pull the Skyhook gag on me, fortunately I heard about it when I was in A&P school. I went off and found some scrap material, a hook and a discarded fan blade, assembled the pieces, painted it and even stenciled an official looking part number on it. (obviously we didn't have much "official" work going on). He was shocked that I came back with this contraption, the shop got a good laugh out of it. The "skyhook" hung around the shop months after I left!

Here are some I remember,

Go and pick up some prop wash from the line shack (P-3B and P-3C days)

Go and order a vortex Generator (the little tab of metal riveted to wing to help air flow, people would be sent to W/C 220 electrical shop for a generator) (A-4M Days)

and the always favorite, go to line shop and get 100' of "flight line"

Timmy
