Omaka Wings and Wheels Day, February 4 2024

Hi Guys, a few shots from this wee event, which was held a few weekends ago. It was a small one-day event, which managed to attract a sizeable crowd given two things, the appearance of the former RNZAF FG-1D Corsair NZ5648, and grownd runs of the Smith Family de Havilland Mosquito in situ at the museum. A few static shots first.

Nanchang CJ-6 decorated in a representative Imperial Japanese Navy scheme for airshow work. The owner has nicknamed his aircraft the Japchang.

The back seat gunner is removed before flight and is a part of the set dressing. The owner of the aircraft is a former movie model maker.

Japchang returning. Its display was so far away it wasn't worth photographing. I tried to get a shot of it and the Corsair in the same frame but it was impossible.

A couple of shots of the Corsair. The aircraft was so far away these were at the extremity of my lenses reach.

Midway up this climb, the aircraft let out a loud cough and its engine spluttered, necessitating a diversionary landing into nearby Blenheim Airport. Thankfully it was just a fuel flow issue and the aircraft returned to Omaka later that afternoon.

Thank you, it was a good day, nice and warm. The museum should be pleased with attendance, it was crowded.
