A piece of understatement in the Hunter Pilots Notes

The hood may be opened fully at under 200 kts but at above 150kts excessive vibration sets in..................In this position the noise level is high and rather distracting but landings can be made without undue inconvenience.

I suspect that flying with a 200mph gale, excessive vibration and a high noise level would be more than just a little distracting and as for the landing being without inconvenience, lets say I have a question mark

I believe the Soviet pilots that flew the Lag-3 also flew with the canopy open due to poor ventilation.
