The Pfalz D.III entered service with the Luftstreitkrafte in 1917 and although it was not as good as the Albatros it turned out to be stronger and was widely used until mid 1918.
The D.III had it's guns recessed into the fuselage, but this feature prevented the pilot from clearing jams, so the D.IIIa raised the guns for the pilot to reach.
The first example shown is the scheme to Oblt. Von Boenigk. My research has shown that the spiral band on the fuselage was a deep forest green. As is the case with most of the WWI schemes, it's been very hard to define the true colors used and my comment in no way implies criticism, all the profiles are outstanding!
