Note that's ARMY Lieutenant Jimmy Doolittle who won the 1925 Schneider trophy for SEAPLANES at an average speed of 232.17 mph!

Earlier, on October 6, 1923, The Pulitzer Trophy Race for LANDPLANES came to Mitchell Field on the Hempstead Plains, Long Island, NY.
NAVY pilot Lt. Al Williams won flying an earlier version Curtiss R2C-1, averaging ~243 mph.
