The Fleet Shadower had a competing design, from whom I can't remember at the moment, which also competed in ugly.
In controlline modelling, there is a naval carrier event where the model must be carrier capable. Extra points awarded for more than one engine. One modeler showed up with a well modelled Fleet Shadower but was protested because he had not read the rules well enough. The full scale aircraft must have made ARRESTED landings. The competing Shadowers were hookless because of their very slow landing speed. And they were slow at everything.
