Suspect that may be a barrage balloon, but why in MAR 43, and if a blimp, why is it flying over a refinery? It would seem to me to be a safety hazzard should it fall into the refinery.

Certainly it can be the barrage balloon as well. With the quality of the pic and the view form the front it is quite difficult to state what kind of the airship it may be. Judging by its altitude I'm gona agree that's the kind of it.

Nice shot of very early P-39's, they look to be unarmed, and taken at the airfield about 30 miles from my home. Still an active ANG and Navy Reserve base.

The picture must have been taken sometime between February ( the unit was activated 1 Feb 1940 ) and March/April 1940 judging by the national markings.
