That's kinda funny, because in the 1970's, there was a guy in Alaska who was repurposing Interstate Cadet/L-6 Grasshopper's into bush planes. He called those planes Arctic Tern.
G2*A, notice the thick doublers along the longeron. Early Spit repaired or modified?

I found the pic but of large size. The caption says : wren-peggy-swain-from-cuckfield-sussex-works-as-an-armourer-on-a-naval-seafire-aircraft-at-royal-naval-air-station-henstridge-in-may-1945-2X1NAD0

Yes. The photo confirms that this Peggy Swain is indeed very charming - but the compliment comes a little late ! - and also that the Spitfire's structure mixes flush riveted areas and others where they are really very prominent.
Were one of these (I think there's TBF behind 8-T-1) the other sole survivor of VT-8?The TBF-1 Avenger entered squadron service with Torpedo Squadron (VT) 8 at NAS Norfolk 1942 FACB

They were TBDs (Devastators), not TBFs.Were one of these (I think there's TBF behind 8-T-1) the other sole survivor of VT-8?
I missed the word OTHER (sole survivor) in the post above. Mea culpa!Part of VT-8 were the TBF's that flew from Midway before the rest of the squadron still equipped TBD's attacked and were shot down. I think that is what Rob is saying. Only 1 of the new TBF's made it back,
